Welcome to the home of trile!
What is triling?
Triling is the feeling of getting a small victory over a stranger on the internet, and watching them become a bit annoyed as you sit back behind your screen with a grin across your face.
The accompanying image encapsulates this feeling in its totality.

What is the origin of triling?
The concept of triling someone is based off of the more mainstream concept of trolling. Although they are quite similar and both can be applied interchangeably in many scenarios, they have some differences that set them apart.
The main difference between them is that trile is less known and could create a more volatile reaction compared to trolling, as trolling has been commonplace on the internet since the early 2010s. Another difference that should be noted is that the trileface currently has not been affected by the modern phenomena of memes shifting towards more disturbing, abstract, and mysterious forms such as trollge, liminal spaces, etc.

The earliest use of the image commonly associated with trile that is on record dates back to January 19, 2011, on a forum called "damnportlanders" hosted on the service LiveJournal.
It is found as the profile picture of a user named 4pflux, who commented on a post by seckela, looking for certain video games and game consoles locally in Portland, Oregon, USA. It is likely that this is not the first instance of the image as the image is a variation of the trollface which was incredibly popular at the time of the post, but the original author and first usage on the internet is likely lost to time.

However, the origin of the name trile is more recent, coming from the Discord server of the subreddit r/PixelGun. The name stems from a combination of the words "troll" and "smile".
The discord community of r/PixelGun is quite important to the history and preservation of trile and the trileface as it is the community in which the trileface is most actively used in.
The trileface was added as an emoji on the Discord server by administrator Northcorn and publicly revealed by then administrator and current subreddit and server owner KronkaVirus in a "ritard report" on March 16, 2021.

After the emoji was introduced in March, it quickly rose in popularity and was used heavily between April and November 2021. Eventually, the usage of the trileface began to decrease and has become infrequently used ever since the main promoters of the trileface moved on.
My involvement.
I — IronPainting — have had a considerable involvement with the popularity of the trileface in the r/PixelGun Discord community and with the creation of lore and hype for the trileface. In the beginning when the emoji of it was added, I didn't pay close attention to the trileface, but I soon developed an interest in the trileface and began to use it a lot.

On April 21, 2021, I made my first move to create hype for the trileface by putting an image of it on the Photo Badge cosmetic item in the first-person class-based shooter Team Fortress 2, and sharing it to the Discord server. The Photo Badge item in TF2 allows you to put any image on it to display on your character in the game.

Afterwards on May 24, 2021, I made a joke about the advertising blurbs many businesses create to drive attention and traffic to their websites with trile being the "product" I was trying to advertize. This was later the inspiration for the creation of the first trile website.

Why should you trile?
Dedication to trile can and will bring you happiness and serenity and most of all, the defeat of all your foes.
How can I trile?
Triling is easy, watch as I do it right before your own eyes:
Is your refrigerator running? You might say "Yes, it is running."

You've now realized what has happened haven't you?

Your refrigerator is currently 52 meters (170.604 feet) away from your location and is moving further and further away as you sit in front of your screen at awe in how I have triled you.

This is only the beginning. There is much more to learn about trile than you might think, it would take a thousand years to understand it all. You must only blindly accept trile for now, but trust me; the reward at the end will be grand.
